The popular Family History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, turned 30 on October 23, 2015. For three decades it has provided the world’s most extensive archive of records for people to search for their ancestors.
“The Family History Library in Salt Lake City is unique in all the world,” said Diane Loosle, director of the world-renowned library. She explained the focus of the library has always been to increase access to the world’s genealogical records and help patrons make personal family discoveries. “To the family historian, this library is like Disneyland. People dream for years of coming.”
Before the library opens each morning (except Sundays), people are lined up waiting to get in for another day of searching their family lines, starting from four generations back to the beginning of time.
