First Presidency, Apostles Train and Inspire New Mission Leaders During Seminar

The only speaker during a special sacrament meeting on Sunday, June 26 — the conclusion of a four-day training seminar for new mission leaders — President Russell M. Nelson encouraged leaders to spend private time each day with the Lord and to reflect often on their temple covenants.

“As you reserve this precious time of preparation each day, the Holy Ghost can reach you and teach you,” he said. “With this kind of daily, divine help, each day of your mission can be historic.”

Members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and other leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke during the 2022 Seminar for New Mission Leaders, held June 23–26 from the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah.

The new mission leaders, who begin their three-year service July 1, will be serving in one of the 164 missions across the globe.

President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, encouraged new mission leaders to honor the unique gifts the Lord has given them.

“The Lord has called us not because we are like someone we admire, but because we have the gifts the Lord wants us to use,” he said on the opening day of the seminar on Thursday, June 23. “Honor the gifts the Lord has given you. … He has not called you because you will be the same as the president or wife of the president who preceded you.”

President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, focused on converted missionaries converting others during his message on Friday, June 24.

“My message to you mission leaders is to encourage you to make the deep conversion of your missionaries a continuing priority,” he said.

President M. Russell Ballard, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, promised the leaders, “You are going to have the greatest experience of your lives.”
