Florida Governor Rick Scott toured the new Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with members of Florida’s congressional delegation, American Jewish Committee leaders in south Florida and local religious leaders. Governor Scott visited the temple during an open house with Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Mary Cook, on Friday, 18 April, 2014.

Elder Cook met with the political and religious leaders throughout the day and then took them on a tour of the new temple. U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart and U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, both representing Florida, were also guests during the open house.
Tens of thousands of people, including local faith leaders, attended the recent open house that ran from 29 March through 19 April, 2014. The temple will be formally dedicated in three sessions on Sunday, 4 May 2014, making it the 143rd operating temple of the Church worldwide. A cultural celebration featuring music and dance will be held on Saturday, 3 May.
This is the second temple the Church will have in Florida. The Orlando Temple was dedicated in 1994. Plans to construct the Fort Lauderdale Temple were first announced by President Thomas S. Monson in October 2009. Ground was broken for the new temple on 18 June 2011.
The 30,500-square-foot temple, located in Davie, Florida, will serve approximately 25,000 Church members from congregations in south Florida.
