Games as Marketing Ploy for Church

Misstatement:

"The world’s largest winter gala is being seen as a grand marketing scheme for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

Fact:

Church President Gordon B. Hinckley said that the Church would play its part in the community by being "good hosts." Since then, the Church has responded positively to a number of specific requests for support from the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. Missionaries are available to answer questions within Temple Square, but will not be proselytizing throughout the city or at Olympic venues.
