Ground was broken for the Barranquilla Temple, Colombia’s second temple, Saturday, February 20, 2016.
Elder Juan A. Uceda of the Seventy and president of the South America Northwest Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presided. Elder Hernando Camargo of the Seventy also attended.

"Heaven rejoices because we are starting to build a temple," said Elder Uceda. “There are no coincidences in the time of the Lord. This groundbreaking ceremony coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment on the Church in Colombia.”
Elder Camargo said, “We believe that families can maintain their unity after leaving this world. We believe in eternal families.”
The temple was announced at the Church’s October 2011 general conference.
The temple will rise from a hill overlooking the Magdalena River, which is the largest river in Colombia.
After the temple is completed, open house dates will be announced so the public can tour the temple before it is dedicated. A date for dedication will also be announced.
The Church currently has 149 temples in operation, with another 29 announced, under construction or being renovated.
Today there are more than 185,000 Latter-day Saints in Colombia. The first temple in the country was completed in 1999 in Bogota.
