All rights reserved.The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Maceió Brazil Temple will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Elder B. Corey Cuvelier of the Brazil Area Presidency will preside at the event.
Over 1.5 million Latter-day Saints call Brazil home, meeting in around 2,000 congregations.
This will be the sixth house of the Lord under construction in the country. Temples are also being constructed in João Pessoa, Londrina, Natal, Ribeirão Prêto and Teresina.
There are 11 dedicated temples in Brazil: the Belém, Brasília, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo Temples. The Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple will be dedicated on August 16, 2026.

“The doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints centers on the family. Essential to our doctrine on the family is the temple. The ordinances received there enable us to return as eternal families to the presence of our Heavenly Father,” President Dallin H. Oaks taught in a recent general conference.
Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints differ from meetinghouses or chapels where members and friends of the Church meet for Sunday worship services. Each temple is considered a house of the Lord, where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed, and where Christ’s power enables families to be united for eternity. In the temple, Church members can seek peace and guidance, learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve others.
