Groundbreaking Planned for First Wyoming Temple

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking for the Star Valley Wyoming Temple will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015.

The Star Valley Wyoming Temple will be constructed east of U.S. Highway 89 on the Haderlie Farm property south of Afton.

The temple was announced at the Church’s October 2011 general conference.

Additional information and invitations for the groundbreaking will be provided by local leaders in the coming weeks.

Once construction of the new temple begins, it is expected to take approximately two years to complete.

After completion, open house dates will be announced so the public can tour the temple before it is dedicated. A date for dedication will also be announced.

The Star Valley Wyoming Temple is the first in Wyoming and will serve members living in the western part of the state, who now travel approximately 1.5 hours to Idaho Falls and Rexburg, Idaho, for temple services.

The Church currently has 144 temples in operation, with another 30 announced, under construction or being renovated.
