Plans to construct the temple were announced 7 May 1998, Church leaders broke ground 12 October 1998, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple 14 November 1999. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is white Bethel granite.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
