Plans to construct the temple were announced 2 April 2000, Church leaders broke ground 29 March 2003, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Helsinki Finland Temple 22 October 2006. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Finland, Russia and the Baltic countries.

The 16,350-square-foot temple’s exterior is light gray Italian granite.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
