Honduran First Lady Meetswith First Presidency

The first lady of Honduras, Rosa Elena Bonilla de Lobo, met with President Thomas S. Monson and President Henry B. Eyring of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Tuesday, 8 November 2011.

She said it was a unique privilege to meet with the president of the Church. “I understand that this is one of the rare privileges or one of the great privileges that we have had during this visit.”

Prior to meeting with the First Presidency, the first lady was especially interested to see and learn how the Church Humanitarian Center and Welfare Square help to meet the needs of millions of people around the world.

She explained the Church was helpful recently during terrible flooding in Honduras. “What you did recently, just two weeks ago, you delivered 90,000 tons of food for the people who were affected by the rain and flooding, and this is one of the many things you do.”

The first lady said this experience has reaffirmed in her mind the relationship that the Church has with the entire world. “I now have faith that the Church does not have borders or limits in their ability [and] commitment to help those in need.”

Mrs. Lobo also toured Temple Square, the Family History Library and the Conference Center.

Her visit was in conjunction with a speech she will deliver this week at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
