Last week, Newsroom reported on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ initial cleanup efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. Many cleanup events have taken place since then. Two of the most recent humanitarian efforts occurred in New Jersey and North Carolina.

On 4 September, nearly 700 Latter-day Saint volunteers in Caldwell and Lincoln Park, N.J. rallied to help their neighbors and communities. They wore the familiar Mormon Helping Hands T-shirts and cleared debris from flood-ravaged homes.
On 30 August, members of the Church in Stacey and South River, N.C., distributed 200 cleaning, food and personal hygiene kits, along with bottled water and wheelbarrows, to local hurricane victims. Supplies were provided by a local Deseret Industries, a nonprofit business enterprise owned and operated by the Church.
An estimated 3,000 Latter-day Saint volunteers are anticipated to work in New York and New Jersery communities over the 9/11 weekend in a continuing effort to help those suffering from the affects of Hurricane Irene.
