Starting this week, youth who were not scheduled to attend a For the Strength of Youth conference this year in the U.S. or Canada will have the opportunity to register to participate.

While stakes inside the U.S. and Canada are given the chance to attend FSY conferences by assignment with their youth once every two years, after the assigned stakes have been given three months to register, the Church opens up registration to other youth to fill the remaining spots, explained Kelly Smith, FSY initiative specialist for the Church.

“It’s especially for those who didn’t go last year,” she said. “And for those who might not have a chance to go next year.”

Attendance still requires the same approvals from bishops that are expected with those whose stakes were already scheduled to attend this year. Space is subject to availability. Youth within the U.S. and Canada can apply to attend any conference in their respective country.

If it is not the assigned year for the youth to attend, they are responsible to pay for the camp. Wards may choose to help cover part of the cost, but that is to be handled on a case-by-case basis between the young man or young woman, his or her family and the bishop, Smith said.

Youth, parents and leaders can learn more about how to register on ChurchofJesusChrist.org. The site also has a page that shows when a specific stake is assigned to attend FSY. That page will indicate either odd years or even years as the anticipated time when youth from a specific stake should attend with other youth from the same stake.

Registration for each session closes on the Sunday prior to the session’s start date.
