Plans to construct the temple were announced 4 October 2008, Church leaders broke ground 8 May 2010, and Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Kansas City Missouri Temple 6 May 2012. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Kansas, Missouri and small portions of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The 32,000-square-foot temple’s exterior is precast concrete.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
