Plans to construct the temple were announced 20 July 1998, Church leaders broke ground 23 June 2007, and Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Kyiv Ukraine Temple 29 August 2010. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Eastern Europe.

The 22,000-square-foot temple’s exterior is Amarelo Macieira granite with quartzite crystals.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
