Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints mobilized to help families affected by a devastating fire that occurred in the Nadine Heredia settlement in the district of Ancón near Lima, Peru, on March 6, 2025.
The blaze destroyed 28 homes, leaving more than 500 people homeless and claiming the life of a 10-year-old boy who tried to save his pet. The lack of basic services in the area and narrow streets made it difficult for firefighters to respond and provide immediate assistance to those impacted by the fire.
Volunteers and members from the Miramar Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ came together to support those affected. They delivered food, bottled water, clothing, hygiene supplies, backpacks, notebooks, shoes and other essential items to meet the families’ most urgent needs.

Thanks to the presence of Latter-day Saints in the area, the Church was able to assess the fire survivors’ needs firsthand and coordinate effective aid.
Among the survivors was Celinda, the grandmother of the young boy who died in the fire. She shared her profound grief and the difficult situation they now face.
“This is how we live now. … It’s so hard to endure this. We’ve been left with nothing, and we need more help,” she said, showing the improvised tent where she now sleeps with her family.
The Municipality of Ancón has set up tents in an open field to temporarily shelter the displaced families. However, the need for additional support remains, and more Church units in Ancón and nearby districts are organizing to join this relief effort.
The spirit of love and service continues to inspire Church members to reach out to those in need.
