Plans to construct the temple were announced 17 September 1998, Church leaders broke ground 16 January 1999, and President James E. Faust, then second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Memphis Tennessee Temple 23 April 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Memphis; Little Rock, Arkansas and Tupelo, Mississippi.

The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is Imperial Danby white marble.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
