Buenos Aires Temple Rededicated

President Henry B. Eyring of the Church’s First Presidency rededicated the Buenos Aires Argentina Temple on Sunday, 9 September, in three sessions. A cultural celebration featuring music and dance was held on 8 September. Elders M. Russell Ballard and D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles joined President Eyring at both events.

When originally completed, the Buenos Aires Temple was the 39th temple completed worldwide and the fourth in South America. It now takes its place among 138 temples operating throughout the world; there are an additional 28 temples announced or under construction.

Renovation of the Buenos Aires Temple includes two new wings and new art glass throughout, with triple-paned insulated glass incorporating the colors of the Argentine flag. Landscaping and garden redesigns include a new entryway fountain. New decorative painting and gold leafing reflect patterns taken from historic architecture in Buenos Aires, and enhanced decorative wood trim and paneling feature Anigre and Makore hardwoods from Africa. An additional building was completed adjacent to the temple to provide housing for temple leadership.

Latter-day Saint temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered “houses of the Lord” where Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and strengthen their commitment to serve Jesus Christ and those around them.
