Many Samoans lost their home, crops, clothing and other possessions during Cyclone Evan, and they expressed deep gratitude for the Latter-day Saints in American Samoa who continue to provide help and support more than four months after the disaster.

Panama: Latter-day Saint Women Donate Maternity Baskets to Hospital
A group of Latter-day Saint women in Panama marked the 171st anniversary of the Relief Society in March by assembling baskets full of shirts, bibs, diaper bags and other supplies for babies and donating them to the maternity ward of St. Thomas Hospital.

The women joined more than six million women across the globe who gathered to commemorate the anniversary of Relief Society, one of the largest women’s organizations in the world. The Church organization focuses on helping women strengthen families and help those in need.

Australia: Relief Society Marks a Milestone With Birthing Kits Donation
Latter-day Saint women in Adelaide and Perth, Australia also celebrated the 171st anniversary of Relief Society by assembling and donating 1,200 birthing kits for new mothers in developing countries.

The Relief Society members in both cities were supporting the work of the Birthing Kit Foundation (Australia), an organization dedicated to improving conditions for women in developing countries who give birth at home, often on dirt floors.

Argentina: Church Comes to the Aid of Buenos Aires Flooding Victims

Buenos Aires residents who have suffered through flooded homes and property in recent weeks were given clothes, shoes, mattresses and other assistance from members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mormon volunteers were joined by University of La Matanza students to help load the donated items at the Church’s distribution center located near Buenos Aires.

Russia: Mormon Women Helping Former Soldiers
Relief Society women of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Moscow are helping former soldiers in their rehabilitation.

The women have provided hand-sewn bed linens and wheelchairs as an expression of gratitude for service during the Afghanistan war. The men are living in the Moscow House of Cheshire receiving treatment for their combat injuries.

Philippines: Philippine Navy and LDS Charities Help Typhoon Victims
Three multipurpose buildings will be constructed in locations near Manila to serve as temporary shelters for victims of Typhoon Pablo, which did considerable damage last December.

LDS Charities and the Philippine Navy have entered into a Memo of Agreement (MOA) to construct these barangay multipurpose centers to provide a place to live while permanent housing is being constructed.

Brazil: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Honored for Years of Service in Espírito Santo
The City of Vitória honored The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April for its 47 years of service in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. The city council expressed appreciation for the social projects and programs of the Church and praised the Church for standing for religious understanding and working together with the community.
