MormonNewsroom.org features stories from its international Newsroom websites to share what leaders and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world are doing to better the communities in which they live.
Puerto Rico: Hands and Hearts Plant Trees
More than 300 members of the Church and other organizations participated in cleaning beaches, mowing lawns, painting fences, planting fruit trees and ornamental plants and handing out information on the Chikungunya, a virus that causes a fever lasting about a week.
The annual event is the International Day of Service, and residents joined in enthusiastically to help.

Malaysia: Villagers Receive Necessities
Latter-day Saints in their familiar yellow Mormon Helping Hands vests distributed hygiene products and school supplies November 29 to two villages in Malaysia.
LDS Charities provided the supplies, and members of the Church and the community participated in the service. After the items were handed out, residents gathered in the local community center to show off their talents of juggling, dancing and singing. There was also a puppet show for the children.

Ghana: Teens Girls Reach Out to Serve

The girls, their leaders and their parents spent a Saturday morning preparing rice, chicken and bananas to give to patients and the hospital staff.

Australia: Valuable State Records Being Digitized
Every will and probate record from 1925 to 1937 in the Victoria public record office, in southeast Melbourne, Australia, is being digitized by Mormon missionaries. The office holds a vast array of records created by the Victorian government dating back to the 1830s.
Each historical document captured is a part of a much larger personal story that may touch the lives of many descendants for generations. The digitized results are available to the general public.
