Malaysia: LDS Charities Helping to Bring Water to Those in Need
Water, a basic life-sustaining necessity, has been difficult to get for many Malaysians in the eastern peninsular. One young family without access to water has gone to nearby villages begging for water every day.
LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of the Church, learned of the family’s plight and other families in similar circumstances, and began working on a solution.

South Africa: Apostle Visits Durban Temple Site
Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles visited the construction site of the Durban South Africa Temple. President Thomas S. Monson announced the construction of the temple in 2011, and ground was broken for the sacred structure in April of last year.
The Church apostle also met with Latter-day Saints and encouraged them to strengthen their faith and testimony of Jesus Christ.

Pacific, Samoa: Church No-Cost Dental Clinic Helps Carmelite Nuns
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints operates a no-cost dental clinic in Apia, Samoa, for anyone in need regardless of their religious affiliation.
The clinic begins its busy day at 6:00 a.m. People line up as early as 4:00 a.m. to be seen by the two dentists, both Church volunteers. Recently, two of the many patients they received were Carmelite nuns.

Ghana: Church Provides Wheelchair Maintenance Training
Since 2013, LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has donated 1,400 wheelchairs to those in need from Lome, Togo, in West Africa. To keep the medical devices rolling and operating at peak efficiency, the Church has provided training to clinicians on wheelchair maintenance.
After receiving an LDS Charities wheelchair, each individual is also trained how to use and take care of it.

Peru: Latter-day Saints Clean Country’s Oldest Cemetery
Mormon Helping Hands volunteers went to work recently cleaning a historical monument, the Museo Cementerio Presbítero Matías Maestro in Lima, Peru.
The Lima cemetery has 766 mausoleums and 92 historical markers of the most refined architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries. The remains of men and women who are part of the history of Peru are in the 209-year-old cemetery.

Russia: Church Participates in Religion and Society Roundtable
“Religions, Society, State.” That was the topic of a recent round table discussion on the dynamics of religion in a modern Russian society.
The roundtable included educators, journalists and religious leaders. A full report on the meeting will be featured in two issues of the magazine Science and Religion. Discussion of the Church’s humanitarian program will be included in the report.
