Germany: Church Resource Office Opens to Help All People Become Self-Sufficient
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has opened a resource center to help people, whether they are Mormons or not, secure meaningful employment.

The free courses include how to present one’s self in an interview, write a resume, find employment or learn how to become self-employed. English classes are also offered. The goal is to assist people to be self-sufficient so they can provide for their family.

India: Church Provides Homes for Nepal Earthquake Survivors
The monsoon season and cold weather have settled in on survivors of the devastating earthquake in April of this year in Nepal.

LDS Charities has joined with CHOICE International in building semi-permanent housing for people who lost everything.

Guatemala: Mormon Helping Hands Clean Cemetery
More than 1,250 hours of service were donated by over 100 young Latter-day Saints at a local cemetery. The service project was named “Rescuing the General Cemetery.” Young people gathered weeds, trash and other debris and painted the curbs on the cemetery’s streets.

Isabel Torres, one of the girls participating in the service project, said, “There is no greater satisfaction than to care for and clean the cultural heritage of the city, and visitors expect a clean place.”

Dominican Republic: Community and Religious Leaders Find Joy in Service Together
Mormon Helping Hands volunteers joined with Caribbean communities in several service projects for the third annual International Day of Service.

Hundreds of volunteers tackled more than 90 community projects, including beautifying schools and homes for the elderly, picking up trash, painting buildings, pruning trees and setting up blood donation stations.

Ukraine: Latter-day Saints Help in Fall Cleanup
Approximately 90 Mormons in Ukraine raked leaves, removed debris, cleaned flowerbeds and planted flowers and trees at the end of October.

It was a Mormon Helping Hands project demonstrating care and loyalty to the communities in which they live, but more importantly, it was an opportunity to follow Jesus Christ and do what He has taught.

Russia: Year of Remembrance Marking First Latter-day Saint Member in Russia
It’s been 120 years since the first convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was baptized in Russia. Neva Johan and Alma Lindelof from Finland were living in St. Petersburg in June 1895 and were baptized in a local river.

A concert, held November 6 in the Central House of Architects in Moscow, was the culminating event to the year of celebration throughout the country.

Minnesota, USA: Mormons and Catholics Sing at Benefit Concert
Interfaith choirs comprised of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Catholic Church and other organizations performed a concert of Thanksgiving recently.

The concert also included a plea for food for the Catholic Charities Food Shelves in St. Cloud, Minnesota. A half-ton of food was collected.
