MormonNewsroom.org features stories from its international Newsroom websites to share what leaders and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world are doing to better the communities in which they live.
Ghana: Church Responds to Ebola Crisis
During the mid-September three-day lockdown in Sierra Leone, LDS Charities came to the aid of Latter-day Saints with food, water, hygiene supplies and chlorine to assist during the Ebola outbreak.
As the suffering increases, the people of Sierra Leone face their greatest challenge — the shortage of food, especially in the quarantined areas.

Ghana: Latter-day Saints Rely on Their Faith During Ebola Crisis
During the government ordered three-day stay-at-home period in mid-September due to the Ebola outbreak, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continued to meet for worship services.
Local Church leaders authorized regular Sunday meetings — which consist of the singing of hymns, prayers, talks on the gospel of Jesus Christ and taking the sacrament (similar to taking communion in other religions) — to be held in each Latter-day Saint home.

Malaysia: LDS Charities Donates to School for Disabled
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, through its LDS Charities organization, has donated educational materials, kitchen items and electronic equipment to Wisma Harapan, a school for the mentally disabled.
“We depend on donations from outside sources to keep our school running,” said Datin Fauziah Indris, president of the Selangor and Federal Territory Association for the Mentally Handicapped (SAMH). “These resources your church has provided were sorely needed and will help us fulfill our mission of caring for the needy.”

Korea: Korean Children’s Choir Sings to Worldwide Audience
During the September general women’s meeting of the Church in Salt Lake City, Utah, the worldwide audience heard and watched a Latter-day Saint Korean children’s choir perform.
The meeting, held in the 21,000-seat Conference Center, was broadcast live in 55 languages to Latter-day Saint chapels, on television and radio and over the Internet. A prerecorded performance of the children’s choir singing a Church hymn was played near the beginning of the meeting.

Uganda: Communities Receive Mormon Helping Hands Treatment
Latter-day Saints dressed in bright yellow vests with the trademark Mormon Helping Hands were scattered throughout many Ugandan communities working with local governments, schools and hospitals in September.
In addition to cleaning, volunteers planted and trimmed trees, unblocked drains, picked up rubbish and gave out 900 pairs of eyeglasses.

Estonia: Children and Adults Tidy Up City Zoo
Mormon Estonian families picked up rakes and garbage bags and worked hard cleaning up the Tallinn Zoo.
The tasks were completed quickly on a beautiful autumn day in October while the zoo animals played with and ate pumpkins. Once the children finished their service, they toured the zoo.
