Russia: Mormon Medical Professionals Instruct in Neonatal Resuscitation Techniques
Latter-day Saint medical professionals were in Russia recently training other medical professionals on the latest neonatal resuscitation methods.
The instruction took place in the Vitebsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital in Belarus and was sponsored by LDS Charities, the Church’s humanitarian arm, and the International Women’s Club of Sofia. More than 100 pediatricians, neonatologists, midwives and neonatal nurses from city hospitals and maternity homes, as well as teachers and students of Vitebsk State Medical University participated in the four-day training course.

Canada: Over 400,000 Pounds of Food Collected
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Calgary joined with their neighbors to help collect more than $800,000 worth of food during the annual Interfaith Food Drive.
Food drive organizers were surprised to learn that a significant portion of the donations came from the areas of Calgary hardest hit by June’s record-breaking flooding.

El Salvador: Mormons Donate Sheets, Gowns and Newborn Kits
Women of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Salvador made sheets, patient gowns and newborn kits and donated them to the Zacamil Hospital.
More than 200 women of the Relief Society (women’s organization of the Church) in San Salvador donated their time, money and skills to make a total of 130 hospital gowns, 106 sheets and 30 kits for newborn babies.

Peru: Latter-day Saints Donate Blood in Peru
More than 1,300 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered in various locations throughout the country earlier in October to donate blood.
An estimated 300,000 units of blood are expected to be collected when the blood donation campaign concludes at the end of October.

South Africa: Needy Receive Wheelchairs
South African radio station Lotus FM has partnered with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to provide wheelchairs for people in need in two Durban locations.
Church Humanitarian Services contracted with a local wheelchair provider to make sure wheelchairs were sized correctly for each recipient. Missionaries stepped in to help recipients receive their wheelchairs, and entertainment was provided during the event.
The wheelchair recipients were also invited to attend a free classical piano concert that evening given by world-renowned concert pianist David Glen Hatch and seven American pianists in South Africa on a concert tour. The free concert was hosted by the Church for the wheelchair recipients, their families, caregivers and the community.
So far this year the Church has distributed more than 300,000 wheelchairs in 112 countries.

Puerto Rico: Mormon Youth Deliver Pajamas to Children’s Hospital
Young Latter-day Saints met happy faces when they delivered 300 pairs of pajamas to the Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Puerto Rico in September.
Stockings and cards of love and inspiration, created by the Church’s young people of the area, were also given to the patients with the help of Church leaders and hospital workers.
