Plans to construct the temple were announced 9 November 1994, Church leaders broke ground 13 March 1999, and President James E. Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Nashville Tennessee Temple 21 May 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Tennessee and Kentucky.

The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is Imperial Danby white marble.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
