Plans to construct the temple were announced 23 February 1999, Church leaders broke ground 13 March 1999, and President James E. Faust, then second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Oaxaca Mexico Temple 11 March 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in southern Mexico.

The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is white marble.

Currently, there are 30 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
