Latter-day Saints can avoid the sin of pride by studying and learning lessons from the Book of Mormon, taught Elder David A. Bednar during the Saturday evening session of general conference on October 5.

“May I suggest that if you or I believe we are sufficiently strong and stalwart to avoid the arrogance of pride, then perhaps we are already suffering from this deadly spiritual disease,” said Elder Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“I testify that as we walk in the meekness of the Lord’s spirit, we will avoid and overcome pride and have peace in Him,” he said.

Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles conducted the Saturday evening session at the Conference Center, where the Church has not limited seating for this conference.

Elder Denelson Silva and Elder Robert M. Daines, both General Authority Seventies, offered the opening and closing prayers respectively.

A special feature this session was a choir of elder and sister missionaries serving in the Utah Area directed by Cory Mendenhall and Chemain Evans, with Linda Margetts and Joseph Peeples at the organ. Two of the choir’s hymn selections are from the new “Hymns—For Home and Church” hymnbook: “I Will Walk With Jesus” (no. 1004) and “Come, Lord Jesus” (no. 1018).

The Church’s global missionary force has grown in the past year, with a record 450 missions worldwide and the number of full-time missionaries serving reaching and surpassing prepandemic highs.
