Open House Begins for the Trujillo Peru Temple

The public is invited to visit the newly completed Trujillo Peru Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A free public open house for the Trujillo Peru Temple will begin on Friday, May 8, and go through Saturday, May 30, 2015, except Sundays, May 10, 17 and 24. The cultural celebration will be held Saturday, June 20, and the temple will be dedicated Sunday, June 21, in three sessions. After the dedication, the temple will be the 147th operating temple in the Church.

Dedicatory services will be broadcast at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to meetinghouses in Peru. The three-hour block of meetings on the 21st will be cancelled so that Latter-day Saints can participate in the sessions.

The temple was announced by the First Presidency in December 2008, and ground was broken September 14, 2011.

The temple will serve more than 88,000 members of the Church in and around Trujillo.

Latter-day Saint temples differ from the meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered "houses of the Lord" where Christ's teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. Inside the temple, members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to serve God and their fellow man.
