Plans to construct the temple were announced 17 February 1990, Church leaders broke ground 20 June 1992, and Howard W. Hunter, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1994 to 1995, dedicated the Orlando Florida Temple 9 October 1994. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Florida, Georgia, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.

The 69,000-square-foot temple’s exterior is white precast concrete with marble chips.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
