Plans to construct the temple were announced 23 August 2002, Church leaders broke ground 20 October 2005, and Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Panama City Panama Temple 10 August 2008. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Panama.

The 18,943-square-foot temple’s exterior is China stone and art-glass windows.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
