Relief Society and Young Women Leaders Visit Peru’s First Lady

Sisters hold training meetings in South America

“Meeting with the first lady of Peru was delightful,” said Sister Carol F. McConkie, first counselor in the Young Women general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sister McConkie and Sister Sharon Eubank, first counselor in the Relief Society general presidency, met with Nancy Lange Kuczynski, wife of Peru President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, in Lima, Saturday, October 14, 2017.

“She was very candid and shared her challenges, her hopes and her efforts on behalf of her family and her country,” said Sister McConkie, who noted that the first lady was “very interested in the welfare of women and children.”

The women leaders of the Church said the first lady talked about youth who recently served with Mormon Helping Hands volunteers. “She is so grateful for their service,” added Sister McConkie, who gave her some Church booklets for youth to share with her 17-year-old daughter.

She continued, “Most remarkable for her was to see their enthusiasm and unity in their work. She hopes that all of the youth of Peru can feel that kind of joy and satisfaction in their work and in service for others.”

Sister McConkie and Sister Eubank traveled from Salt Lake City to Peru, Colombia and Ecuador October 14–22 to provide training meetings and attend worship services with local Church leaders and members. They also visited some members in their homes.

Sister Eubank, who is also the director of LDS Charities, extended her stay in South America to visit welfare projects in Bolivia.
