President Hinckley Rededicates Santiago Chile Temple

SANTIAGO, Chile — President Gordon B. Hinckley traveled to Santiago, Chile, this weekend to rededicate the Church’s newly refurbished temple and meet with members.

This was President Hinckley’s first public appearance since his surgery in January.

Approximately 45,000 Latter-day Saints gathered at the Estadio Monumental on 11 March 2006 to hear messages from President Hinckley, Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve and other Church leaders. Afterward, Latter-day Saint youth performed a program of song and dance celebrating Chilean culture.

The following morning, President Hinckley rededicated the Santiago Chile Temple. Two dedicatory sessions were held.

During the dedicatory sessions, President Hinckley recounted his own history in Chile. Elder Perry remarked, “It was with emotion that he talked about his many visits here.”
