President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, met with members of the Church and guests last week in Versailles.
This was the final leg in a whirlwind tour of three European countries: England, Germany and finally France.
Referring to Germany and France’s histories, he told the Parisians who attended the meeting that “although there have been many wars between the two countries, we are now friends and good neighbors. The gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to make all of us better people and makes no distinction based on nationality and color.”
He continued: “We are all united, all brothers and sisters. The gospel is the answer to the challenges in the world, to all questions faced by families, communities and nations."
President Uchtdorf is a former airline pilot who, with his family, became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany as a young boy. He was named as a counselor in the First Presidency, the Church’s highest governing body, in February this year.
