A free public open house for the Córdoba Argentina Temple will begin on Friday, April 17, and go through Saturday, May 2, 2015, and run every day except Sundays, April 19 and 26.
Once the open house has concluded, the temple will be formally dedicated on Sunday, May 17, in three sessions.
A cultural celebration will be held the day before the dedication, Saturday, May 16. The cultural celebration will feature music and dance honoring the country’s legacy and the history of the Church.
There are more than 380,000 members of the Church in Argentina and currently one operating temple, located in Buenos Aires.
The Córdoba Argentina Temple was built on the site of one of the first chapels in Córdoba and the Argentina North Mission home. It is the same mission where Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presided as mission president. One of his missionaries is another current Church apostle, Elder D. Todd Christofferson.
While the Church’s meetinghouses are open to all people who wish to attend religious services, temples, after they are formally dedicated, are open only to faithful Latter-day Saints. Temples are considered “houses of the Lord” where Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. Inside, members learn more about the purpose of life and make promises to serve God and their fellowmen.
The Córdoba Temple will be the 145th operating temple in the world.
