SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a public open house for the newly remodeled Papeete Tahiti Temple.
The open house will begin on Saturday, 14 October 2006, and continue through Saturday, 4 November 2006, excluding Sundays.
Following the open house, the temple will be formally dedicated on Sunday, 12 November 2006. Two dedicatory sessions will be held to accommodate Latter-day Saints in the area who will be served by the temple. The dedication will be broadcast to all of the Church’s stake centers in Tahiti.
The Papeete Tahiti Temple was originally dedicated 27 October 1983, by President Gordon B. Hinckley, then second counselor in the First Presidency.
Latter-day Saint temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered "houses of the Lord" where Christ's teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity.
In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and strengthen their commitment to serve Jesus Christ and their fellowman.
The Papeete Tahiti Temple
will serve more than 21,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints in six stakes and one mission in French
Polynesia.
