Plans to construct the temple were announced 16 December 2006, Church leaders broke ground 14 March 2009, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Quetzaltenango Guatemala Temple 11 December 2011. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Guatemala.

The 21,085-square-foot temple’s exterior is precast concrete from Mexico.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
