Today, there are nearly 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in Brazil in more than 2,175 congregations. In April 2017, President Russell M. Nelson said, “Brazil is part of the heart of the Church.”
Bakersfield California Temple

Nelson in April 2023. “Jesus Christ is the reason we build temples,” he said, as he counseled members to “draw closer to Him.” The site location was announced in July 2023.
California is home to nearly 730,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 1,130 congregations.
Temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses. The primary purpose of temples is for faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ to participate in sacred ceremonies that unite families forever.
