Plans to construct the temple were announced 12 April 1999, Church leaders broke ground 24 July 1999, and President Thomas S. Monson, then first counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Reno Nevada Temple 23 April 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in western Nevada and eastern California.

The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is granite.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
