Salt Lake Temple Framed by Flags in Memory of the Fallen

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Peace Officers Association planted 118 flags in front of the Salt Lake Temple Wednesday in memory of all Utah law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

This is the second year the memorial has been held near Temple Square. It is normally held at the Utah State Capitol; however, renovations on the capitol required the association to find an alternate location.

On each flag hangs a photograph of an officer who was killed. The memorial remembers officers from 1853 to the present.

An honor guard, representing various law enforcement agencies, stands at the head of the memorial. They stand guard over the field of flags “paying our respects,” said Sergeant Scott White of the Division of Wildlife.
