About the San Pedro Sula Honduras Temple

The San Pedro Sula Honduras Temple, located in northwest Honduras, was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2019 general conference.

When dedicated, the San Pedro Sula Honduras Temple will become the 198th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the second house of the Lord constructed in Honduras. The Tegucigalpa Honduras Temple was completed and dedicated in 2013.

The sacred structure is 35,818 square feet and sits on 9 acres. Ground was broken for construction of the temple on September 5, 2020.

Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple in two sessions on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The dedicatory sessions will be at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. central daylight time.

Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints differ from meetinghouses or chapels where members and friends of the Church meet for Sunday worship services. Each temple is considered a “house of the Lord” where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed so families can be united for eternity. In the temple, Church members can seek peace and guidance, learn more about the purpose of life, and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow men and women.
