Plans to construct the temple were announced 18 November 2007, Church leaders broke ground 20 September 2008, and President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the San Salvador El Salvador Temple 21 August 2011. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in El Salvador, Nicaragua, part of Honduras and Belize.
The 27,986-square-foot temple’s exterior is Blanco Sienna granite from Brazil.
Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
