Joseph Smith, along with his brother Hyrum and his wife Emma, was remembered on the 158th anniversary of the martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum. A service held by the Community of Christ at the Smith Family Cemetery in Nauvoo recognized the historical roots shared by the Community of Christ and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder M. Russell Ballard, Sister Marjorie P. Hinckley and President Gordon B. Hinckley were invited to participate in a service of remembrance that featured a message from Community of Christ President W. Grant McMurray. Elder Ballard offered the invocation, Sister Hinckley placed a rose on the grave of Hyrum Smith and President Hinckley was invited to give the closing prayer.
