Alexander was invited to audition as a guest member of the Choir for the April 2025 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Alexander was put through a rigorous audition of singing, vocal exercises testing his range and sight reading. He considers himself a fast learner, which was a great asset during the audition. He was selected.

“This is a lifelong dream” he said, “I never thought it would ever happen, it is out of this world. Music is my passion, I love it.”

Alexander shared how he has participated in choirs all of his life, starting at age 4 in Church children’s choirs and ending up singing in his university flagship choir in Johannesburg. This same choir took him to the World Choral Olympics in Riga, Latvia, and then on to the Global Choral Symposium in Spain.

Alexander has enjoyed his visit to Salt Lake City, sharing the experience with the other global participants from the four corners of the world.

“We also had the opportunity to be taught about the history of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square by the former conductor, Craig Jessop. It was just amazing to see the origins of the choir and its deep history for over 170 years.”

Alexander has his parents and his wife, Kayla, back at home rooting for him. “I am truly grateful for my loving family and for their amazing support. I think they are so proud,” he said. Alexander also has two children and other extended family making up his “fan club.”

Alexander considers the Tabernacle Choir to be one of the best in the world. “They are very advanced musicians,” he said. “This will be my first in-person experience with the Choir, and I can’t wait. No one is a soloist. [The Choir] is as if one instrument,” he said.

“The highlights so far include being set apart as a missionary as part of this assignment. I realize the sacredness and importance of being a missionary and representing my country and region, I am so proud of being a South African. The award-winning Tabernacle Choir is one of the oldest and largest choirs in the world. The Choir has performed before audiences in more than 28 countries and sold millions of recordings. I trust that my experience and training have prepared me for this moment. I see the Lord directing my path,” he said.

General conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints takes place on April 5 and 6, 2025. It is available online, on television, radio and streaming on the Church’s main channels.
