Plans to construct the temple were announced 13 August 1998, Church leaders broke ground 10 October 1998, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Spokane Washington Temple 21 August 1999. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in eastern Washington and parts of northern Idaho and western Montana.

The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is granite.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
