Plans to construct the temple were announced 31 March 1982, Church leaders broke ground 26 August 1982, and President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a member of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Taipei Taiwan Temple 17 November 1984. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Taiwan.

The 9,945-square-foot temple’s exterior is white ceramic tile.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
