At its third annual Family Values Awards night on September 23, 2023, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Dominican Republic honored three local families who are playing a pivotal role in promoting the family as the foundation of society.
The awards recognized contributions in three categories: The Fatherhood Award was given to Magino Corporán, former director of Conadis (National Council on Disability). The Motherhood Honor was granted to the radio communicator Silvia Callado, creator of the foundation Pasitos de Alegría (Little Steps of Joy) for children with clubfoot. And the Family Unity Award went to the radio and television communicator Francisco Vásquez and his wife, Mayerling Fernández.
Corporán expressed gratitude to The Church of Jesus Christ for his nomination and spoke of how important his family has been in the journey of his life. Callado honored the Church for “highlighting the main pillar of our society. When the world was convincing us that this is what matters least, this is what matters most — our families.” Vásquez commented, “I am totally convinced that never in my 23-year career have I received an award that I value so much. The best thing I’ve ever achieved in my life is my family.”
To close the night, Dominican singer Manny Cruz (recipient of the faith’s 2021 Family Unity Award) delighted the audience with his music.
The annual event was broadcast through the Church’s local digital channels on Facebook and YouTube, allowing a global audience to join the celebration.
The Church of Jesus Christ believes it is fundamental to highlight positive values in society and provide new generations with an example by promoting strong family values and healthy family relationships.
