The Church Works With Save the Children To Help Migrant Children and Families in Mexico

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently donated to the charity Save the Children to improve the health of the children and adolescents of migrant families in Mexico.

Save the Children is an international organization dedicated to working toward a world in which every child and adolescent can exercise their right to survival, protection, development and participation.

The number of migrants and people fleeing conflict, including children, continues to increase in Mexico. This has led to overcrowding in many humanitarian shelters and has made it difficult for these places to provide basic aid such as food, water and sanitation.

Through this donation, food was provided to humanitarian shelters in cities in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, Reynosa, Matamoros, Hermosillo, and Nogales. Additionally, 30 cleaning kits, 6,135 personal hygiene kits and 2,823 menstrual hygiene kits were donated to shelters to help fill sanitation and hygiene needs.

The project also included workshops for people who work in kitchens, as well as campaigns for health, nutrition, sanitation and personal hygiene.

More than a thousand children and adolescents, as well as more than 900 adults, benefited directly from this donation.

Celso Moreno, president of the Churubusco Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said that for the Church, “it is very important to help others and even more, to protect youth, who in the future will become the leaders who will rule the world.”

Fátima Andraca, director of programs for Save the Children Mexico, expressed the joy that the foundation is working in partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ. The two organizations have been working together on this project since November 2021.
