Thousands Light the World in Mexico on National Day of Service

Volunteers cleaned and painted schools, donated food, and improved walkways in a show of love and unity for their communities

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico designated December 7, 2024, as a national day of service. Latter-day Saints and friends came together to spread hope and light during the Christmas season.

Thousands of people across Mexico participated in the voluntary day of service. Activities included painting schools, cleaning parks, visiting care homes, collecting clothing and food for the homeless, maintaining public squares, and much more.

“Our purpose is to reflect the light and love of the Savior in our country. We invite everyone to experience and share the light of Christ through service to others. This year, the focus of the national day of service is to radiate love and compassion,” said Elder Hugo Montoya of the Mexico Area Presidency.

Church members and friends in the Tultitlan area visited two hospitals, delivering food to family members of patients who spend nights outside the facilities waiting for updates on their loved ones’ health. In Mexican states Chihuahua, Torreon, Mexico, and Queretaro, volunteers cleaned and painted schools, migrant shelters, and public squares to foster a healthier, safer, and more pleasant community environment.

The national day of service was part of the global Light the World initiative, an annual campaign inviting people of all faiths and beliefs to perform service and kindness during the Christmas season. This initiative encourages following the example of Jesus Christ by engaging in small but meaningful acts of service.
