Thirty native trees were planted in the north coast of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in November 2024 to reaffirm the community’s commitment to cultural diversity and care of the environment.
Representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints united with ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of various countries and other inter-religious community leaders to celebrate diversity and peace at the tree planting event. Undersecretary of Human Rights Pamela Malewicz and Porteñas deputies Jessica Barreto and Silvia Imas also attended.
The tree plantings, which together form “a path to peace,” commemorate the day of Respect for Cultural Diversity by the Path to Peace Foundation in collaboration with the Universal Peace Federation Argentina and the subsecretariat of Citizen Culture and Human Rights of the City of Buenos Aires. This event symbolized a compromise with the environment and the cultural diversity that enrich society.
During his speech, the president of the Path to Peace Foundation, Danny Lew, highlighted the importance of diversity in society, affirming that “diversity helps us build a more just society.” Likewise, Gustavo Guillermé, president of the World Congress of Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue, emphasized that “cultural diversity is fundamental to promote respect, mutual understanding and social enrichment.”
The president of the Universal Peace Federation, Miguel Werner, thanked everyone present for their participation. Undersecretary Malewicz closed by thanking the participants. “Each planting of a tree symbolizes an action of peace,” she said.
