Plans to construct the temple were announced February 13, 1994, Church leaders broke ground May 13, 1995, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Vernal Utah Temple November 2, 1997. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in parts of eastern central Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.

The 33,400-square-foot temple’s exterior is face brick.
The Vernal Temple was converted into the tenth temple in Utah from the Uintah Stake Tabernacle, which was constructed in 1907.
Currently, there are 30 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
