Sam Penrod, spokesman with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, released the following statement on Friday, March 5, 2021, on the passing of Elder Fernando Antonio Ramos Garcia:

With great sadness, we share news of the death of a young missionary serving in the El Salvador San Salvador West/Belize Mission. Elder Fernando Antonio Ramos Garcia, age 21 from Juayúa, El Salvador, died on Wednesday after drowning in a river in the municipality of Nahulingo, Sonsonate. His body was recovered this morning. Elder Ramos had been serving since March of 2020. Our sincerest condolences and prayers are with Elder Ramos’s family and loved ones as they remember his life and mourn his passing. We pray they will feel the love of our Heavenly Father at this tragic time.

Con gran tristeza, compartimos la noticia de la muerte de un joven misionero que se encontraba sirviendo en la Misión El Salvador San Salvador Oeste/Belice. El élder Fernando Antonio Ramos García, de 21 años, originario de Juayúa, El Salvador, murió el miércoles luego de ahogarse en un río en el Municipio de Nahulingo, Departamento de Sonsonate mientras visitaba el área. Su cuerpo fue encontrado esta mañana. El élder Ramos inició su servicio misional en marzo de 2020.
